Portico Announces Digital Preservation Agreement with the Society of Exploration Geophysicists

Portico (www.portico.org), a digital preservation service for the scholarly community, is pleased to announce that it entered into an agreement with the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) to preserve three online journals and three conference abstracts series published by SEG and the Environmental and Engineering Geophysical Society (EEGS), an SEG publishing partner.

Founded in 1930, SEG is a not-for-profit organization that has a mission to promote the science of geophysics and the education of geophysicists. SEG, which has more than 35,000 members in 138 countries, fulfills its mission through its publications, conferences, forums, websites, and educational opportunities. EEGS, with approximately 700 members, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting geophysics as it is applied to environmental and engineering problems.

Through this agreement with Portico, SEG ensures that these six publications will be preserved and available for future scholars, researchers, and students. SEG has agreed to make an annual contribution to Portico to support its preservation work.
With the inclusion of these six SEG and EEGS publications, more than 10,600 e-journals and 28,500 e-books from 87 publishers on behalf of more than 2,000 societies and associations have now been entrusted to the Portico archive. The complete list of titles and participating publishers is available at www.portico.org.
