Springer to Preserve E-Books in Portico

Portico (www.portico.org) is pleased to announce that it has entered into an agreement with Springer to preserve its entire electronic book collection of 21,000 e-books. Through this agreement with Portico, Springer furthers its digital preservation strategy, which already includes participation in Portico since 2007 on behalf of 824 titles from its e-journals collection as well as the inclusion of 68 of its journals in JSTOR.

Springer is one of the world’s largest journal publishers in the STM (Science, Technology, Medicine) sector, the largest publisher of STM books, and the largest business-to-business publisher in the German language.

As part of the agreement, Springer will make an annual financial contribution to Portico to support its e-book preservation activities and has named Portico as a mechanism to fill post-cancellation access claims for the titles.

With the inclusion of Springer’s e-books, over 10,000 e-journals and 27,000 e-books from 74 publishers on behalf of 2,000 societies and associations have now been entrusted to the Portico archive. The complete list of titles as well as a list of participating publishers are available at www.portico.org.
