UK Serials Group journal, Serials, fully archived in Portico

Portico is pleased to announce that the complete journal of one of its first publisher participants – the UK Serials Group (UKSG) – is now fully preserved within the Portico archive.  UKSG publishes Serials for the international serials community. Portico has preserved the more than 900 articles which constitute Serials' entire 18-year publication history (March 1998 through the present). Consistent with Portico's archival approach, bibliographic metadata has been normalized to Portico's archival format and preserved alongside all the original source files. Portico will further migrate source files in the future as necessary to ensure continued usability. Portico will continue to receive, normalize and preserve new Serials content as it is published.

The UKSG was formed to encourage the exchange of ideas on printed and electronic serials and the process of scholarly communication. In doing this, UKSG, a non-profit membership organization, hopes to promote the discussion and "free flow of information on serials matters and associated technology." Serials contains "topical articles written by librarians, publishers, aggregators and other experts within the global serials industry, as well as conference reports, editorial comment and people in the news."

With the inclusion of the UKSG journal publication, Serials, the Portico archive now contains over 330,000 articles. The complete list of journals promised to the archive is available at http://www.portico.org/about/committed_titles_alpha.html, and a list of participating publishers is available at http://www.portico.org/about/part_publishers.html.

Please visit the Portico website to view a current list of participating libraries http://www.portico.org/about/participating_libraries.html.
