Portico is a preservation service that ensures the long-term availability of scholarly content. As a dark archive, it is not designed to function as a primary access platform. Users typically access content through publisher-hosted platforms or other delivery services.

Platform Accessibility

The Portico public-facing interface has been evaluated against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.

Accessibility conformance details are available in the Portico Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) (PDF).

Content Accessibility

Portico acts primarily as a dark archive, preserving content in the form in which it is received from publishers and other third-party providers. As such, the content is generally not in active use and specific archived materials are only made available for reference when they are not available to institutions elsewhere. As a result, these archived materials, including PDF documents, may not conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Accessibility characteristics of this content are dependent on the source materials and are not modified as part of the dark archive preservation process.

Access to Content

If a user encounters an issue with an archived content item that is available for use, they may contact Portico with a request for accessibility assistance. In addition, users who require assistance accessing content may contact their institution who is also permitted to adapt the content item to meet their user’s needs.
